Just six days ago, Burnley beat Blackburn Rovers comprehensively in the League Cup and there was no doubting who the start player was on the night.

1718 burnley jack cork 01 500x500Jack Cork returned to Burnley just as pre-season was getting underway. He’s started the season well and was in outstanding form in this cup tie in which he scored the first goal and got an assist for Robbie Brady’s goal, our second, just before half time.

It was Jack’s first Burnley goals since rejoining the club and the first in claret and blue since he netted a late winner at Preston in the 2010/11 season, but it was his overall performance that deservedly won him both the man of the match vote and the player ratings.

Cork polled 43% of the man of the match vote, ahead of Robbie Brady, who also scored and had an assist; he was second with a 28% share. Charlie Taylor, on his Burnley debut, claimed third place with 14% while James Tarkowski, captaining the side, was fourth with 6% of the vote.

The top three in the player ratings were the same, with just a switch between second and third. Cork topped it with a rating of 8.86 out of 10 with Taylor second and Brady third with ratings of 8.52 and 8.38 respectively. Scott Arfield, who put the ball in their net on a previous occasion, was fourth; his rating was 7.83 out of 10.

Cork, therefore, won the maximum ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year. Both Brady and Taylor received five points with one point each for Arfield and Tarkowski.

Those points have taken Cork to joint top in the table with Steven Defour. Both have 16 points with Sam Vokes, who has 11 points, the other player in double figures.

You can still vote for your Man of the Match and post your Player Ratings for the Spurs game until the end of tomorrow.
