A memorable week in May
On the morning of 2nd May this year we sat second in the Championship, just a point behind leaders Middlesbrough, who had played a game more, and above Brighton on goal difference. It was, we thought, going to be a tense week as we looked to secure promotion back to the Premier League just a year after suffering relegation.
By the time we kicked off against QPR we’d seen Brighton drop points against Derby and when the final whistle blew on our 1-0 win against the West London club we’d secured that much sought promotion with a game still to be played.
Five days later we won 3-0 at Charlton to clinch the title and on the following Monday received the trophy at the Town Hall to cap a memorable and wonderful week for everyone with an interest in Burnley Football Club.
