A second performance award of the season
Back in August, on a very hot day in London, Burnley stunned the football world with a 3-2 win against Chelsea; on Tuesday this week, on a bitterly cold Turf Moor night, we beat Stoke City 1-0 to move into fourth place in the Premier League.
Other than picking up maximum points, the two games and the two performances couldn’t have been more different, but both have landed us the coveted LG Performance of the Week Award from the League Managers’ Association.
It might not have been pretty, it might have been a tough game in shocking conditions, but that hardly mattered when Ashley Barnes scored the 89th minute winner. It was a result that one LMA member, Mark Hughes, dismissed as you would expect, but for their fine man panel it was their choice that ours was the Performance of the Week.
The panel comprises chairman Howard Wilkinson along with Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry and their decision means a second LG Performance award for us this season which will see Sean Dyche collect a celebratory bottle of champagne as well as the trophy.Share this page :
