1516 burnley jamal crawford 00 630x420Having suffered home defeats against both Shrewsbury Town and Carlisle United in the last week, the Clarets’ youth team are away to Accrington Stanley tomorrow.

Our hosts are currently four places and eight points ahead of us in the Youth Alliance League and with two games in hand on us. They are certainly having a far better season at youth level although it may well be that they consider winning matches to have more value than we do.

We’ve already played them twice in 2015/16, winning one and losing one. We were beaten 2-0 in the home league game against them in November but in September we won 2-1 in a poor game in the Lancashire FA Youth Cup at Burnley Belvedere.

Neither side impressed at all that day and it looked to be going all the way to penalties until Accrington took the lead. With the Burnley spectators then discussing our early exit from the competition, we equalised within three minutes with a Tommy Wood goal and ten minutes later his header came off the bar for Khius Metz to win it for us from the rebound.

It’s the first season they’ve been ahead of us in the table and they’ve previously struggled to get results against us. Last season we won the home game 4-1 with two Josh Dolling goals and one each from Brad Jackson and Waqas Azam, and the return game ended 3-3 with our goals from Andy Nugent, Jamal Crawford (pictured) and Ntumba Massanka.

Tomorrow’s game will be played at Nelson Football Club kicking off at 11 a.m.
