Bolton Wanderers kicked off the week three points clear at the top of the Professional Development League, but they ended it in second place behind Sheffield Wednesday on goal difference after losing at Hull.

1718 burnley christian nguessan 00 500x500Besides kicking off three points clear of Wednesday, Bolton held a seven point advantage over third place but that’s now down to fourth with Nottingham Forest having beaten Barnsley last Friday to ensure they remained in that position and closed the gap at the top.

Whilst Bolton were losing that game against Hull, Sheffield Wednesday were beating their local rivals Sheffield United when a win for the Blades would have taken them above Wednesday.

Things are looking a little bit worse for us at the bottom after defeat to Huddersfield who were third from bottom and with Crewe, just above us, drawing, we are now four points adrift although, from reports, the game at Huddersfield is one we should have got something from.

Whilst the gap at the top closes in the north group, it has widened in the south group with leaders Crystal Palace beating Charlton and second place Ipswich surprisingly beaten by Colchester.

But the game of the week in the south came yesterday between Bristol City and Watford, the bottom two clubs. Watford looked as though they were going to be on the end of a hammering when they fell 4-0 behind with only 23 minutes gone but Watford were incredibly level by half time and in front just two minutes into the second half, aided by a hat trick from 16-year-old debutant Ryan Cassidy.

There’s no league game for us this week because of the Premier League Cup which sees us travel to Colchester tomorrow night looking for a result that will take us closer to the knock out stages of the competition.

The player featured this week is midfielder Christian N’Guessan.
