1516 burnley tendayi darikwa 00 300x500Burnley right-back Tendayi Darikwa has today rubbished suggestions from the new Zimbabwe team manager Wellington Mpandare that English based players are afraid to visit his country due to a fear of the unknown.

Mpandare  has announced a new look side without a number of English players and was reported to have said that Darikwa’s call up hit a brick wall as the player needed assurance that rumours about Zimbabwe’s backwardness is not true. It’s also said that he reportedly asked whether Zimbabwe even had hotels.

He then went on to admit to being confident that he will secure the services of Darikwa as negotiations between a Zifa representative, his father and the player are about to yield a positive outcome.

Darikwa received a call up during the 2015/16 season but withdrew from the squad. Although no explanation was given at the time it was not thought to be anything to do with hotels or the lack of them or anything regarding the culture in Zimbabwe.

The player replied to the comments this morning with two words via Twitter – “the lies!!”.
