Stuart Attwell from Nuneaton will referee our Premier League game at home against West Ham tomorrow, just the fourth time he will have refereed at Turf Moor and only the second time in the Premier League.

Attwell returned to the select group of referees ahead of last season having previously been axed following a series of somewhat controversial decisions, none more so than the now infamous phantom goal in a game between Watford and Reading in 2009.

He certainly seems to have put all that controversy behind him with his second coming and although he’s not a Premier League regular, he’s certainly building himself a reputation as the good referee the authorities were expecting when they very quickly promoted him to the top group in 2008 when he was just 25.

Tomorrow will be his 13th Burnley game and I think it is fair to say we’ve had very few problems with him in those games and that’s reflected in his RATE THE REF rating which is 69.11 out of 100 which sees him in 7th place.

This season he’s refereed six games of which just two have been in the Premier League, at Huddersfield and Newcastle. In those six games there have been 14 yellow cards with nine going to home team players and five to away team players.

His last game was the Checkatrade Trophy game between Accrington and Blackpool at the Crown Ground ten days ago. That was a card free game.

The assistant referees are Eddie Smart (West Midlands) and Mick McDonough (Northumberland). The fourth official is Mike Dean (Wirral) whose last Burnley game was the 1-0 home win against Leicester last January.
