curzon ashton 3 1000x500Our under-23s, currently second in the Professional Development League, are in action this afternoon for the first time this year with a home game against Sheffield Wednesday which will be played at Curzon Ashton.

We went into the Christmas break as one of three teams with 30 points, behind Birmingham on goal difference while holding a similar lead over third place Leeds who have a game in hand. Birmingham have already won their game this week, beating Barnsley two days ago, but a win would take us right back up alongside them on points.

Sheffield Wednesday, who looked set to win the league last year until we beat them in the final game, a result which ensured we didn’t finish bottom, are currently eighth in the ten team northern group table having won five of their sixteen games.

It was back in October that we travelled to Sheffield for the away fixture against them, played at their training ground. We won 4-2 with Dan Agyei scoring twice and both Tinashe Chakwana and Tunde Bayode on the scoresheet.

Last season’s home game against them ended in a 1-0 defeat. On that occasion the game was played at Gawthorpe.

Kick off today at the Tameside Stadium is 2 p.m.
