1819 burnley ed cook 01 500x500It is a third successive Monday afternoon at Curzon Ashton today with a home game in the Professional Development League against Crewe Alexandra.

Today’s game is actually our fourth successive home game although the first of them was played at Turf Moor three weeks ago. We’ve lost two of the three, Millwall beating us in that Turf Moor game at Hull securing all three points last week. Between those two games we beat Bolton 2-0 in what was our first game at Curzon Ashton this season.

We are currently above Crewe in the league, but only just. We are eighth in the northern group table with 9 points and a goal difference of minus 1. Crewe have the same points total and the same goal difference but have scored and conceded four less goals than us so sit ninth. Sheffield Wednesday are currently bottom. They have the same number of points but a goal difference of minus nine which suffered further with a 4-0 defeat at Birmingham two days ago.

Last season’s home game between the two ended in a 1-0 win for Burnley. The game was one of a small number played at the Turf and the result was decided just before half time. William Jaaskelainen kept out a Dwight McNeil free kick but couldn’t hold it and that gave Ed Cook (pictured), then on trial with the Clarets, to hit home high into the net. The result lifted us off the bottom of the table.

Today’s game at Curzon Ashton kicks off at 2 p.m.
