Burnley remain bottom of Group C after two games in the Premier League Cup. Bournemouth, who beat us 7-1 in the opening fixture, lead the way with six points, followed by West Brom who have three points and then both Liverpool and ourselves with one point each.

1819 burnley adam legzdins 00 500x500That point came at Liverpool last Sunday in what was a real against the odds result after Jordan Cropper had been sent off ten minutes before half time for handling the ball on the line. It was 0-0 at the time and the score remained so after Liverpool missed the penalty.

Ten minutes into the second half, we went in front through Tinashe Chakwana, but the lead lasted only a couple of minutes with a goal from Glen McAuley.

We conceded two penalties in our last league game and it was another two in this game. Adam Legzdins (pictured) saved it, as he’d done with the two in the league game against Barnsley, and he made a terrific double save right at the end to ensure we got our point.

There is one game in the Premier League Cup this week, but it involves two teams not in our league which has a full fixture list. We face Nottingham Forest at Curzon Ashton on Monday with Steve Stone in charge for the first time, and we go into the week’s games in third place behind Bolton and Leeds.  It’s Leeds who go first with a home game against fifth place Birmingham tomorrow while Bolton end the week’s fixtures with an evening kick off against fourth place Sheffield United on Monday.

In the south, Crystal Palace won the only game last week, beating bottom of the league Colchester, and that’s taken them into second place just two points behind leaders Ipswich. The pair meet on Monday and a Palace win would take them top of the league and they are very much the team in form.
