1415 burnley ashley barnes 00 630x420Ashley Barnes has finally returned to action today, just over twelve weeks since he came off just before half time in the friendly against Bradford City.

He partnered Andre Gray this afternoon in a behind closed doors friendly against Sheffield Wednesday at Gawthorpe that ended 0-0. It was Gray who came closest to scoring for the Clarets, hitting the post in the first half but Wednesday had the best chance from the penalty spot after a handball by Jimmy Dunne, but it was saved by Northern Ireland Under-21 international Conor Mitchell who was already having a superb game.

Barnes came off at the interval and was replaced by George Green who is back from a loan in Scotland, but the second half was played in deteriorating weather as the training ground was hit by torrential rain.

The Burnley team was: Conor Mitchell, Arlen Birch, Trialist (Sam Layton ht), Jimmy Dunne, Ali Koiki, Brad Jackson, Jamie Thomas, Freddy Yao (Mark Howarth ht), Nashe Chakwana, (Olatunde Bayode 72), Ashley Barnes (George Green ht), Andre Gray. Subs not used: Connor King, Taofiq Olomowewe.
