Big defeat for under-23s
An under-23 team, including five starters from the youth team, have gone down to a heavy 7-0 defeat against Newcastle this afternoon.
The first goal came when Luke Charman headed in a Callum Roberts free kick on eight minutes and the Newcastle lead was doubled six minutes later when Charman’s cross was headed home by Tom Heardman.
It was 3-0 in 21 minutes with Roberts converting after being played in by Charman and five minutes later we were four down when Heardman scored from close range.
Four became five just past the half hour when Heardman completed a hat trick and when Jamie Holmes fired home three minutes before half time it gave Newcastle a 6-0 lead.
Holmes got his second and Newcastle’s seventh just eight minutes into the second half but there were no further goals with Newcastle winning the game 7-0.
