Big win takes under-18s into third place
When Burnley beat Crewe 6-1 last Friday at Gawthorpe it guaranteed that we would move ahead of Leeds into third place in the U18 Professional Development League given ours was the only game being played in the north group.
The game had been held back from the previous Saturday due to Crewe’s involvement in the FA Youth Cup and the win enabled us to move within three points of leaders Sheffield Wednesday and draw level with Nottingham Forest who remain above us because of a better goal difference.
Leeds and Sheffield United are now both three points behind us although Leeds have one game in hand while Sheffield United have played two less games than us.
Looking at that top five it is Forest who, on paper, have the easier game this weekend with a home fixture against Barnsley while we travel to Leeds and the two Sheffield clubs clash.
There was just one game in the south too with Bristol City missing the opportunity to go second when they needed just a point from their home game against Charlton. It ended in a 2-1 win for the visitors who moved up to sixth.
We’re back to a virtually full fixture list this Saturday when we’ll be looking to build on last Saturday’s win that brought to an end a run of three league and cup games without a win.
The player pictured this week is goalkeeper Kai Calderbank-Park.
