gawthorpe 2Burnley’s pre-season will move on a step today with two games being played simultaneously at Gawthorpe against League One clubs Blackpool and Gawthorpe.

It’s one of the changes manager Sean Dyche has made to the pre-season schedule with the need to get the players up to ninety minutes quicker than in previous years. Most of them played 45 minutes at Cork but with today’s games, followed by those at Curzon Ashton and Macclesfield on Friday, it will give the players and early opportunity to play full games.

They are training games behind closed doors today and there had been given no publicity. However, a couple of weeks or so ago, new Shrewsbury boss John Askey confirmed his team would be one of those involved.

The other was thought, initially, to be Fleetwood with the now obvious links there, but the other team providing opposition are those from the other end of the tram derby, Blackpool.

We’ll then be left with just three games, those on Friday plus next Monday’s game at Preston, before we move into competitive action in nine days time at Aberdeen.
