He’s refereed three Southampton games this season against Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Watford but when we play them tomorrow it will be the first time Bobby Madley has refereed a Burnley game since the final game of last season against West Ham United.

No one refereed us more than Madley last season; the West Ham game was his fourth of the season having previously been in charge of our away games at West Ham, Sunderland and Crystal Palace.

We’ve had problems with him in the Burnley games he’s refereed. He ridiculously sent off Kieran Trippier against Charlton in the 2012/13, supposedly for handball on the line. In the following season he got his decision horribly wrong in awarding West Ham their first penalty in the League Cup and last season we should have had a free kick that he missed before then awarding West Ham a penalty at the London Stadium.

His mistakes haven’t all been against us. In the 2013/14 season he yellow carded Derby’s Chris Martin for a second time in the game. This one was for diving. I still don’t think Trippier fouled him but it was certainly not a dive.

This season, away from Burnley games, he’s refereed on 23 occasions and he’s handed out 84 yellow and five red cards. The first red came at Wembley in the Community Shield when he dismissed Chelsea’s Pedro whilst also issuing four yellow cards.

Of the other yellows, 38 have gone to home team players and 42 to away team players. Only two of the red cards have been in the Premier League and both were in the same game back in August when he sent off Kyle Walker and Morgan Schneiderlin in the 1-1 draw between Manchester City and Everton.

His last game was last Sunday’s FA Cup tie between Rochdale and Spurs. There were four yellow cards in that game with Rochdale’s Joe Rafferty, Harrison McGahey and Ollie Rathbone joined by Spurs’ defender Toby Alderweireld.

Bobby Madley is currently 14th in RATE THE REF with a rating of 62.55 out of 100. Hopefully things will run smoothly tomorrow, we don’t get a wrong match changing decision from him as we’ve seen far too often, and his overall rating is improved.

The assistant referees are Marc Perry (West Midlands) and Mick McDonough (Northumberland). The fourth official is Mike Jones (Chester) whose only Burnley game this season was the 1-0 home win against Stoke in December.
