There was a shock when we arrived for the under-23 game this afternoon against Queens Park Rangers, which ended in a 0-0 draw, with the name JENSEN on the team sheet as our goalkeeper.

As it happened he wasn’t involved in the game but he was at the game and apparently, according to reports in Denmark, he signed for us in August although, at this stage, nothing has been reported.

1920 burnley george mcmahon 00 500x500George McMahon was in goal, and he played an important role in the draw as did Robbie Brady who looked ready for first team action with a good performance on the left hand side of the pitch.

This was another game we should have won comfortably but in a pretty dismal first half the best chance fell to QPR who won a penalty that looked nothing like one. Lewis Walker stepped up for QPR but McMahon (pictured) saved well to his right to keep the scores level.

We did have a couple of chances that came to nothing but there was nothing to get excited about and very little to write about in a first half where the most dominant figure on the pitch was the over officious referee.

I think it is fair to say that we dominated the second half. We were so much on top at times and had so many chances it seemed inconceivable that we wouldn’t put one of them away. A year ago we were dominating games and winning them with some big scores, but then the goals were being scored in the main by Dan Agyei and Tinashe Chakwana. Neither of them are with them now and today we had Rob Harker and 16-year-old Joe McGlynn up front. They are both promising players but are not going to plunder goals as was the case last season.

QPR were very fortunate in that second half. We missed target with some, their goalkeeper did well and they got in some fortunate blocks as we did just about all we could to win the game.

But it’s played four, drawn four now as we still look for that first win of the season.

The teams were;

Burnley: George McMahon, Ryan Cooney, Bobby Thomas, Oliver Younger, Anthony Glennon, Tunde Bayode, Josh Benson (Christian N’Guessan ht), Adam Phillips, Robbie Brady, Rob Harker (Will Harris 76), Joe McGlynn. Subs not used: Kai Calderbank-Park, Jordan Cropper, Scott Wilson.

QPR: Tyla Dickinson, Kayden Williams-Lowe, Franklin Domi, Faysal Bettache, Nathan Carlyle, Joe Gubbins, Odysseus Alfa, Dylan Duncan, Lewis Walker, Amrit Bansal-McNulty, Deshane Dalling. Subs: Tom Middlehurst, Shiloh Remy, Themis Kefalas, Charley Kendall.
