Last week’s leaders Huddersfield Town were without a game, third place Bolton saw their game against Nottingham Forest called off because of the weather and that meant Burnley went top of the U18 Professional Development League again when we beat second place Leeds 2-1 at Gawthorpe two days ago.

1718 burnley marcel wusiewicz 00 500x500In this very tight league, four successive defeats saw us drop into the bottom half but this third successive victory has taken us to the top of the league again, two points clear of Huddersfield and a further point ahead of Leeds and Bolton although all three do have a game in hand.

Despite having gone back to the top, we remain one of only two teams in the north group with a negative goal difference; Barnsley, the other, are now ten points behind us at the other end of the table. They lost the clash of the bottom two, suffering a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Sheffield United.

The other two games in the north group provided both Hull, our next league opponents, and Sheffield United with wins while things are beginning to stir at the bottom of the south group.

When Coventry kicked off a week last Thursday at Cardiff they were pointless from their first ten games. A 2-0 win provided them with their first points of the season and they followed that up with a big 4-1 home win against QPR on Saturday. They are still bottom, but are now just four points behind Colchester who were also beaten 4-1, their defeat coming at Charlton.

Nothing has changed at the top of that group with the top three, Crystal Palace, Watford and Millwall, all winning with Palace still ten points clear of the other two.

This coming Saturday, while Burnley travel to Hull, second place Huddersfield have a home game against Crewe while the next two in the league, Leeds and Bolton, face each other with Leeds at home.
