Two goals for Tommy Wood
Two goals for Tommy Wood

The youth team dropped two points last Saturday when Wigan scored an equaliser just seconds from the end of the ninety minutes, but there were no problems for our under-18 team today who claimed another three points with a 3-0 away win against Bury at their training ground at Carrington.

The points were all but in the bag with just twenty minutes gone as strike pair Tommy Wood and Nashé Chakwana hit three goals between them and this after Bury had come close to taking an early lead.

Wood got the first, hitting home a shot from just inside the box following a ball in from Tristan Jumeau on the wing and in no time it was 2-0 as Chakwana, who scored a brace in the 3-3 draw against Wigan, latched on to a ball over the Bury defence from central defender Oliver Younger.

Burnley made a similar start on Saturday but this time, with only 20 minutes gone, it was 3-0. Wood was brought down in the box and he himself got up to hit home from the penalty spot.

There were no further goals but in the second half Harry Limb, making his youth team debut, came close as did Tyler Shrimpton who hammered a shot against the bar.

It was another good result for Michael Duff’s team against Bury who, for a long period, were top of the league. Since losing at Walsall on 1st October, we’ve now won eight and drawn three of our twelve games with only one defeat, and that an unfortunate one at leaders Blackpool just over four weeks ago.

We lined up: Connor King, James Clarke (Leighton Egan 77), Oliver Younger, Scott Wilson, Trialist, Tristan Jumeau (Ali Koiki 56), Tyler Shrimpton, Trialist (Miles Fenton 61), Nashé Chakwana, Tommy Wood (RJ Pingling 77), Harry Limb. Sub not used: Marcel Wusiewicz.
