The first pre-season game has been played with the Clarets winning it 3-1 against FC Stade Nyonnaise in Nyon.

The team sailed across Lake Geneva and over the border from France for this game and Sean Dyche fielded almost two different teams in each half as promised; only goalkeeper Paul Robinson, making his first public appearance for the club, featuring in both halves.

It looks as though we dominated proceedings in the early stages and took the lead through Andre Gray twenty minutes in when he got onto a pass from Ashley Barnes to fire home high into the net, and Barnes himself made it 2-0 five minutes later, heading home a cross from Aiden O’Neill following a corner.

Two goals in the last three minutes of the first half saw us go in with a 3-1 lead. Firstly Nyonnaise pulled one back with a superb low strike from Stipe Simunac and that was followed with Michael Keane heading home a Michael Kightly free kick in the last minute of the half.

It was all change, Robinson apart, at the interval, and the former England keeper played until just past the hour when he was replaced by Northern Ireland under-19 international Conor Mitchell. Mitchell has been on the bench for the first team on one occasion but, like Robinson, was making his first public appearance for the first team.

Lukas Jutkiewicz thought he’d increased Burnley’s lead midway through the second half but his header was disallowed and the same player was again close to getting our fourth when an overhead kick, following a ball from Scott Arfield, came back off the bar.

A 3-1 win it was, the squad are on their way home tomorrow and will next be in action against Morecambe at the Globe Arena next Tuesday.
