Burnley win keeps us sixth in Alliance
Burnley’s 1-0 win against Morecambe last Saturday didn’t move us up the Youth Alliance League but did ensure we remained in sixth place in the table as we took our points total to 31 points and got us back to winning ways after losing, somewhat unfortunately, in the previous game against leaders Blackpool.
It was an inexperienced squad that lined up for Burnley at Gawthorpe with three of our under-16s involved. Kian Yari was in the starting line up while both Dylon Meredith and Daniel Moss were named as substitutes.
It was a goal very early in the second half from Nashé Chakwana (who is pictured) that secured the 1-0 win and it was needed to keep us in sixth place, ahead of Bury, who beat Accrington, on goal difference. It also allowed us to catch up with Rochdale, whose game was postponed, while Shrewsbury, also winners, retained their one point lead.
Like Rochdale, who should have played Fleetwood, Preston’s game was also called off and that prevented their opponents Walsall from closing the gap on leaders Blackpool who lost for only the third time this season, surprisingly going down 2-0 at Wigan. Their lead over Walsall remains at seven points but now having played three games more.
