Burnley kept a third clean sheet of the season last Saturday when we beat Everton 1-0 at home and no surprise that Ben Mee, who turned in another excellent performance, won both the man of the match vote and the player ratings.

1920 burnley ben mee 00 500x500It’s been a really good start to the season at home with all of Southampton, Norwich and now Everton having failed to score. In the previous two wins it was James Tarkowski receiving all the plaudits. He played well again but Mee was the pick of the defence in this game.

He won the man of the match with 31% of the vote. Just behind him with a 26% share was Jeff Hendrick. With Jack Cork’s injury, he moved into the centre of the midfield alongside Ashley Westwood and continued his good form. Dwight McNeil took third place with 14% of the vote with 12% winning fourth place for Tarkowski.

Three of that top four made it in the player ratings too. Mee was again the winner with a rating of 8.51 out of 10. It was a close run thing for second place with Hendrick just beating Tarkowski; they had ratings of 8.07 and 8.06 respectively. Goalkeeper Nick Pope took fourth place; his rating was 7.58 out of 10.

Mee has won ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year. There are six points for Hendrick, three for Tarkowski, two for McNeil and one for Pope. Those points have made little difference to the player of the year table with all but two of them going to the existing top four. It has allowed Mee to reduce Tarkowski’s lead at the top to 16 points with Hendrick in third place a further nine points behind.

With the international break upon us, the next man of the match vote will come a week on Saturday after our game at Leicester, but watch out for next week’s best Premier League goal vote when the top five from the first 100 goals will be up alongside the top five from the next 100.
