Joe O’Shaughnessy, a goalkeeper in Burnley’s academy, has received a call up to attend a four day selection camp for next season’s England under-15 squad. He will be at Loughborough between 31st July and 3rd August along with other hopefuls under the guidance of Kevin Betsy.

It follows on from a similar call up for the under-14s last year and is a real boost for the youngster who joined Burnley last year from Wrexham and, despite still aged 14, has already signed a two year scholarship to start in two years time.

Academy manager Jon Pepper said of the Warrington born goalkeeper: “It’s great recognition for Joe and for the academy and can only raise the profile of what we’re doing here.

“I’m sure he will keep his feet on the ground and keep working hard. He’s highly thought of by the staff at the academy and will hopefully be with us for the long term.”

He’s already set to train with the full time scholars next season when he’s on day release from school and is likely to play for the under-16s.

He’ll work under goalkeeping coach Craig Mawson who said: “He’s a good lad who wants to learn and if he fulfils his potential there’s no reason why he can’t progress through the age groups with us. This is another step on the road for Joe and we wish him well.”
