Burnley went into last Monday’s Professional Development League game at Crewe in 9th place in the 11 team league, but by the end of the day we had slumped to the bottom with Crewe moving above us and Bolton, previously bottom, winning at Huddersfield.

1718 burnley aidan stone 00 500x500We didn’t review the league last week and at the time of that last review we had a five point lead over Bolton, but they beat league leaders Sheffield Wednesday a week ago and followed it up with that win at Huddersfield.

Wednesday still hold the lead at the top of the north group but it is very close between them and their neighbours Sheffield United with Wednesday top courtesy of having conceded one less goal.

Hull are only a point behind after another win last Saturday. Their disappointing start the season is very much forgotten now as they beat Birmingham in another KCOM Stadium double header with the under-23 game following the first team game against Nottingham Forest.

It’s all still very close in the table. We are behind Huddersfield on goal difference but one win would see us move five places up the table and we’ll be looking to do that when the two bottom clubs meet at the Turf next Monday.

The north group, as it is in the U18 league, is far more competitive than the south group which is currently led by QPR who are three points ahead of second place Coventry. While the gap between top and bottom in the north is just ten points, QPR have a 15 point lead over Bristol City who occupy bottom place in the south.

A number of clubs are in Premier League Cup action in the next few days but there is still a full programme in the north group which starts tomorrow and ends with the Sheffield derby on Tuesday as the two clubs battle to break clear at the top.
