Clarets to face Hannover 96 at home
Burnley have confirmed one of the two pre-season friendlies to be played at Turf Moor with newly promoted Bundesliga club Hannover 96 to play us on Saturday 5th August.
This will be the last of the friendlies before we go into the new Premier League season against a side who themselves have just won promotion as runners up behind Vfb Stuttgart in Bundesliga 2.
It’s not the first time we’ve played them but the last occasion was in 1966 when we played them in West Germany. That game ended in a 1-1 draw with Ralph Coates scoring the Burnley goal.
The German side are managed by André Breitenreiter, who made six appearances for Germany between 1995 and 1996. The club’s full name is Hannoverscher Sportverein von 1896 but are better known by their abbreviated name.
They played in European competition as recently as the 2012/13 season but suffered relegation from the Bundesliga in but have returned with 67 points from their 34 games this season when their leading goalscorer was Martin Hamik.
The last time we played a German team was in 2005 when, for a second successive season, we faced SV Wackerburghausen. The last of them was played in Bad Wimsbach, Austria and ended in a 1-1 draw with James O’Connor scoring the Burnley goal.
The game will kick off at 3 p.m. and has now been added to the pre-season friendlies which can be found on the top menu.Share this page :
