Clarets to face Middlesbrough in cup semi-final
It’s been a long wait for us. Back in November we beat Morecambe at home 1-0 with a late goal from Josh Ginnelly (pictured) in the Final Third Development (Central) League Cup but then had to wait until February for our group to finish and confirm our place in the semi-final.
By mid February we knew our opponents would be Hartlepool or Middlesbrough and eventually it was all down to one game between Middlesbrough and Gateshead. A win for Boro would see us play them but any other result would see Hartlepool win through.
That game has finally been played this afternoon and Middlesbrough have won it convincingly in the end, beating Gateshead 5-2 which included four goals from Arnel Jakupovic. Boro were 2-0 up, saw Gateshead draw level just after the start of the second half but went on to add three more goals.
There is no date or venue as yet for the semi-final but we will be the away team. Stoke beat Notts County 2-1 in the other semi-final and they will now be waiting on our game to determine their opponents.
Besides beating Morecambe, we drew 3-3 against Fleetwood, also at home, with the goals from Cameron Dummigan and Ntumba Massanka, and also won 4-1 at Bradford City when Jamie Frost and Khius Metz(2) scored along with an own goal.Share this page :
