york 1000x500Burnley might not have made any signings as yet for the first team but we will be adding to our youth team squad this week with the capture of York’s 16-year-old winger Vinnie Steels.

He made his first team debut for the Minstermen last season but Burnley have made an offer for him and he will have talks with the club this week.

York’s sporting director Dave Penney told the York Press: “This is a great opportunity for Vinnie to move to a Premier League club and we wish him all the best. Burnley have complied with all the rules and gave seven days notice last week of their intentions to approach the player. Both Vinnie and his agent will now be free to talk to Burnley’s representatives on Wednesday.

“As we are no longer protected by the EPPP, we have little protection against the bigger clubs when it comes to holding on to our best young players.”

York weren’t able to sign him on a professional deal but had made him an offer which he was scheduled to sign next month.
