Two of Burnley’s summer targets, Swansea City midfielder Sam Clucas and West Brom striker Jay Rodriguez, are now looking less than likely to sign in the next few days.

Clucas was expected to sign after Burnley and Swansea agreed a fee of around £8 million for him but things have changed in the last day or two with the deal now considered to be off in some quarters. Our local press are suggesting that while down in South Wales they are reporting is in serious doubt, a problem for Swansea given they need to sell him to allow them to fund the signing of Brentford’s Ryan Woods.

It was thought it was all down to the medical. If indeed it is off, no reasons have yet been forthcoming with speculation around the Turf yesterday that it was down to wage demands but others commenting that he’d failed a medical.

The story at West Brom is different in that there appears to be no need to sell. The Rodriguez chase has been ongoing all summer but it appears we’ve had another offer turned down by the Baggies and now face competition from three other Premier League clubs who could go higher than we are prepared to pay.

Clucas is currently out injured so didn’t take part in Swansea’s win at Sheffield United; Jay, however, was in the West Brom team beaten at home by Bolton.
