The Professional Development League, like its under-18 counterpart, is still playing games between teams from the two different geographical groups and it’s to the south we have to look, so far, for the best records.

1718 burnley aidan stone 00 500x500While the north’s top two, both Sheffield clubs, failed to add to their opening two wins, that was not the case for Coventry and QPR who have now both made it three wins out of three with Coventry, who beat Leeds 4-3, becoming the first team to reach double figures in terms of goals.

Just behind them are QPR, winners against Barnsley, followed by Colchester who are two points behind but moved into third place with a win against Hull.

Hull are the big strugglers so far from the opening games. They’ve now lost all three of their opening games and are pointless, alongside Leeds and Bolton, both of whom have games in hand. Hull have also become the first side to reach double figures in the goals against column.

Both of the Sheffield clubs were expected to add to their start with further wins but it wasn’t to be. Wednesday did at least make a draw in their game at Millwall but United fell to defeat at Ipswich.

Nottingham Forest are currently the ones to watch. They are the one team in the north with a 100% record with two wins out of two and their latest win at Palace ended the London club’s perfect start.

The league had its first hat trick of the season, not as though Burnley fans would have enjoyed it. We lost 3-1 at Bristol City on Tuesday evening with Diego De Girolamo scoring all three for the home club. They will certainly be his last goals in this league for a while; on the following day he was loaned out to his home town club Chesterfield for the remainder of the season.

This week’s fixtures get underway today with four of the nine fixtures being played. Burnley are without a league game this week but face Preston next Monday in the Lancashire Senior Cup.

The League Tables will be updated as results are confirmed. They and our Fixtures and Results can be found in U23/U18 Stats on the top menu.
