I’m not convinced he was ever on it, but we can certainly cross Barnsley defender Marc Roberts off our potential list of incoming signings after he put pen to paper on a five year deal at Birmingham City this morning.

The link initially came about during the last transfer window in January with suggestions that Burnley had pushed hard to bring the player, who had signed for his home town club Barnsley from FC Halifax on a free transfer in the summer of 2015.

Nothing happened, but a couple of journalists who like to discuss  potential transfers were predicting that he would arrive at Turf Moor in the summer with Burnley then very keen to add to the defensive options due to Michael Keane being likely to leave.

Keane is now very likely to leave, if not certain to, but Roberts (pictured celebrating a goal in Lancashire last season) this morning penned that long term deal with Birmingham.

He said: “There’s been a lot of rumours and a lot of clubs interested but when a manager like Harry Redknapp comes along and asks for your signature you’ve got to take it seriously.”

Barnsley have confirmed they have received a substantial fee from Birmingham and so Roberts is one we can now definitely cross off the list. That’s if he was ever on it in the first place.
