curzon ashton 2 1000x500The Clarets are playing the second of six group games in the Premier League Cup tonight with the visit of Colchester United with the game to be played at Curzon Ashton with a 7 p.m. kick off.

This season, as a Category 2 club, we went straight into the group stage of the competition and were drawn in Group D with Colchester, Newcastle and Swansea and got our campaign underway with a sensational 4-3 away win at Newcastle. With only ten minutes remaining, having previously been 2-0 down, we still trailed 2-1 but then scored twice in three minutes to go in front, suffered a Newcastle equaliser and then won it 4-3 with a goal three minutes from time.

Our goalscorers in the win were Harry Limb, Christian N’Guessan, Khius Metz and Rahis Nabi and was part of a run of four games without defeat which shuddered to an end ten days ago when we were beaten 6-1 in the league by Sheffield United.

Colchester and Swansea are still to kick off their group games, the only two of the 32 teams in the competition which, therefore, currently sees us lead our group with three points as we look for a top two finish to qualify for the knock out stage of the competition.

Kick off tonight at Curzon Ashton’s Tameside Stadium is 7 p.m.
