1516 burnley tendayi darikwa 00 300x500Right-back Tendayi Darikwa’s move from Burnley to Nottingham Forest has been confirmed for an undisclosed fee believed to be an initial £2 million with Chesterfield receiving a percentage of the profit.

Darikwa is returning to his home town club on a four year deal and will be hoping to be given the opportunity to play more football than has been the case for him at Burnley.

He joined us just ahead of the 2015/16 season after Matt Lowton suffered an injury in a pre-season game at Fleetwood. He’d just had an excellent game for us for Chesterfield a few days earlier and we stepped in just as he was about to sign for Preston.

With Lowton ruled out for the first few weeks of the season, he went straight into the side and retained his place up to a 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough in December after which he was replaced by Lowton. That was a run of 21 consecutive league appearances but since that Middlesbrough game he’s not kicked a ball in league action with his play restricted to cup ties, the last of which was the 1-0 defeat against Lincoln in February of this year.

His contract at Burnley was due to run out at the end of the forthcoming season with Burnley unlikely to activate the one year extension and so it is a good deal for Tendayi who is now contracted to Forest until 2021.

He played his last game for Chesterfield against Burnley and now is likely to get his first game for Forest against us with a debut likely to come this Saturday in what is their last pre-season games.
