1617 burnley jimmy dunne 01 1000Burnley’s development squad played another game yesterday, a second this week after a 4-0 win against Middlesbrough. This time, despite scoring five times, we were winners by just one goal, beating Wigan Athletic 5-4 at Christopher Park.

We were never behind in the game with Dan Agyei opening the scoring from a Nashé Chakwana cross and it was  soon 2-0 when Chakwana himself headed home. Wigan did pull on back but Jimmy Dunne (pictured), scoring his first Burnley goal, with another header, made it 3-1 and that was the score at half time.

The second half didn’t start quite so well and Wigan were soon level with two goals in five minutes but we were back in front with just over 20 minutes to go when Dwight McNeil hit home a powerful left foot shot.

However, Wigan came back again, scoring their fourth with a superb striker with just six minutes remaining, but it was Burnley’s game right at the end when Taofiq Olomowewe met a Mark Howarth corner to score from close range.

The Burnley team was: Conor Mitchell, Arlen Birch, Taofiq Olomowewe, Tom Anderson, Jimmy Dunne, Luke Hendrie, Olatunde Bayode, Sam Layton, Nashé Chakwana, Dan Agyei, Ntumba Massanka. Subs: Tony Aghayere, Tristan Jumeau, Mark Howarth, Brad Jackson, RJ Pingling, Tommy Wood, Kwasinkosi Mpofu, Tyler Shrimpton, Dwight McNeil.
