It’s been two games played concurrently this afternoon at Gawthorpe as manager Sean Dyche gets minutes into the players ahead of the new Premier League season which, for us, will kick off in two weeks time.

Scottish Championship Hearts and League Two Mansfield were our opponents this afternoon with the Clarets hitting four goals in each game, beating Hearts 4-1 and Mansfield 4-2.

It was the Hearts game that got the first goals. Jay Rodriguez gave us an early lead from the penalty spot after a foul on Lewis Richardson and soon after Max Thompson, who made his Premier League bow at Manchester City, doubled the advantage.

It was then over to the Mansfield game where our opponents went in front but back to the Hearts game and goal number three for Burnley when Richardson scored after Thompson had seen his effort saved.

Josh Brownhill got his first goal in Burnley colours, netting from a free kick to level things up against Mansfield. That game was all square at 1-1 when the half time whistle blew but there was a further goal in the Hearts game when they pulled one back to take the score to 3-1.

That 3-1 lead soon became 4-1 just after the interval when Jόhann Berg Guðmundsson scored for a second successive weekend but that was the end of the scoring in that game, a 4-1 win, with all the goalscoring attention now transferred to the Mansfield game.

Chris Wood put Burnley in front. Bobby Thomas made it 3-1 before Wood got his second. It looked as though that  would also end 4-1 but Mansfield pulled one back right at the end.

The Burnley teams were;

v Hearts: Will Norris, Matt Lowton, Kevin Long, James Tarkowski, Erik Pieters, Jόhann Berg Guðmundsson, Ashley Westwood, Josh Benson, Lewis Richardson (Marcel Elva-Fountaine 73), Jay Rodriguez, Max Thompson (Joel Mumbongo 65).

v Mansfield: Lukas Jensen, Phil Bardsley, Jimmy Dunne, Bobby Thomas, Charlie Taylor, Ne-Jai Tucker, Josh Brownhill, Mace Goodridge, Dwight McNeil, Matěj Vydra, Chris Wood. Subs not used: Matty Rain, Rob Harker and two trialists.
