Down to third for youths after first defeat of the year
When Burnley were beaten 3-1 last Saturday by Crewe Alexandra it cost us the leadership of the U18 Professional Development League as new leaders Bolton and Leeds both moved ahead of us on goal difference.
Bolton, one of three teams who started last weekend three points behind us, went top after beating Huddersfield, who were second, 6-1 whilst Leeds won at Barnsley. Nottingham Forest were the other team who kicked off alongside Bolton and Leeds but they were beaten by Sheffield Wednesday, a result which has closed up the league even more.
Birmingham beat Hull in the one remaining north group game; they are now seventh in the eleven league team but are just three points from the top of the league, that’s how close it is.
Although nothing like that, the south group has tightened up with both of the top two, Crystal Palace and Millwall, suffering defeats. Palace lost at home against third place Charlton and Millwall were beaten in a crazy home game against QPR which the visitors won 5-1.
Back to the north group and It could be all change again this week. Leaders Bolton are at Nottingham Forest and they will lose top place should they lose with Leeds and Burnley facing each other at Thorp Arch.
Huddersfield, who were second before last weekend’s games are without a fixture this week and will drop in the league should Forest get anything at Bolton. Fourth place Sheffield Wednesday, meanwhile, travel to Barnsley who are now bottom of the league, below Sheffield United on goal difference.
The player features is Craig Ellison who scored our goal in the defeat against Crewe.
