Dwight gets the Chelsea vote and is player of the month
Dwight McNeil scored the second of our late goals last Saturday against Chelsea to cap his first man of the match performance of the season.
On a day when we played some good football despite giving soft goals away and failing to take our chances, McNeil stood out on the left hand side of the pitch and later in the game over to the right and fully deserved to win both our man of the match vote and player ratings.
He polled a massive 63% of the vote to win the man of the match, way ahead of midfielder Jack Cork who returned to the side after a shoulder injury to claim second place with a 19% share. Jay Rodriguez and Ben Mee, with just 5% and 4% of the vote respectively, took third and fourth places.
He won the vote comfortably and it was the same for the player ratings. He scored 7.63 out of 10 with Cork again in second place with a score of just 6.63. Mee took third place this time with 6.48 while goalkeeper Nick Pope finished fourth with a rating of just 5.78 out of 10.
McNeil wins ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year with six points for Cork, three for Mee, two for Rodriguez and one point for Pope. Mee and Chris Wood had led the way for the October player of the month, but McNeil’s maximum has taken him ahead of both and he follows James Tarkowski and Jeff Hendrick in winning a monthly award.
As for the player of the year; Mee has closed the gap slightly on Tarkowski at the top but it is still 17 points and McNeil has stepped up into third place but he’s eleven points behind Mee.
The next vote will be underway this Saturday when we play Sheffield United at Bramall Lane and below you can see the Chelsea result, the player of the month result and the current player of the year table.
