Eagles flying in to Accrington
It came as a surprise this morning when Accrington Stanley confirmed that former Claret Chris Eagles would be in their squad for the opening League Two fixture against Doncaster Rovers.
The news is that the 30-year-old Eagles has trained with Stanley this morning, along with former Aston Villa defender Janoi Donacien, and both have been included in the squad by John Coleman. Eagles will wear the number 33 shirt he wore in all his three seasons at Turf Moor.
He joined the Clarets in the summer of 2008, making his debut in the last pre-season friendly against Inverness Caledonian Thistle and went on to make 120 league appearances for us in three seasons, in which he scored 33 goals.
Once we were relegated from the Premier League in 2010, he and Tyrone Mears made it clear to the club they wished to return to the Premier League and eventually did so when Bolton came in for both of them during the build up to the 2011/12 season. He spent three seasons at Bolton and has since played for Blackpool, Charlton and Bury. He was released by Bury at the end of last season having made just one start for them having signed in October 2015.
I’m assuming he will have been registered by Stanley as a non-contract player with the club probably keen to get him under contract and into their squad.Share this page :
