gawthorpe 2With the second year scholars either leaving the club or moving up to the under-23s for next season, and the first years becoming the experienced members of the youth team, the club have confirmed that there will be eleven new scholars in place ready to kick off next season.

Five of those have come through from the club’s under-16 team and have been with Burnley for two years or more. They are striker Mitchell George, striker or wide attacker Matthew O’Neill, wide midfielder Rhys Fenlon, central midfielder Joe Conley and Ne Jai Tucker who can play as a midfielder or wide attacker.

They will be joined by six more new scholars who are coming in from elsewhere. They are goalkeeper Harry Allen from Manchester United, Liverpool pair Jaydon Major (wide attacker or attacking midfielder) and left-back Matty Rain, Kane Paterson, a right back from Tottenham and two centre backs, Edon Pruti from Stevenage and Udoka Chima who is coming from grassroots football in London.

Academy manager Jon Pepper said: “I’m looking forward to seeing the players integrate and develop as a group, and hopefully we will see individuals progressing onto the under-23 development squad at some stage over the course of their scholarship.”

The eleven new players. some of whom have already played in the youth team this season, will all arrive on initial two year scholarships and they have been added to our Squad List which has been fully updated at academy level to reflect those players who have left and those who, at the end of their two years, have moved up from the youth team.

Up the Clarets would like to wish all those new players the very best in their careers at Burnley.
