1718 burnley brad jackson 00 500x500Burnley’s ever changing under-23 team will play their final home game in the Professional Development League today against Coventry City with the game now being played at the training ground at Gawthorpe.

It’s been interesting seeing the line up in recent weeks with lots of trialists around from various clubs. One of them, central defender Teddy Perkins, is still around. He was watching the youth team game last Saturday while Ed Cook, another central defender, has now signed a deal with the club.

It’s likely that there will be further trialists on view this afternoon as we look to get a win that could lift us off the bottom of the league. We currently sit one point behind Barnsley and we both play at home this afternoon before we meet at Oakwell in four days time.

Some of our squad have, as of last week, been released. It was the case with the youths on Saturday that some of the released players were involved so it could be the same with today’s team and could give players such as Arlen Birch, Rahis Nabi, Brad Jackson (pictured) and Jamie Thomas a final home game for the club.

Coventry are currently in mid-table in the south group with ten wins and ten defeats from their 26 games to date. They are not the strongest defensively and have conceded more goals than we have although they have scored twice as many.

Their leading goalscorer is Jordan Ponticelli, but he’s unlikely to play having been drafted into the first team recently; two days ago he scored both their goals in a 2-1 win at Crawley.

Kick off today is 2 p.m.
