Stuart Attwell will referee a Premier League game at Turf Moor for the first time tomorrow when the Clarets face Tottenham Hotspur; this will be his first visit, other than when on fourth official duty, in over three years since a home game against Sheffield Wednesday.

He’s returned to the Premier League this season for a second spell. His previous time was a difficult one for him when he refereed us twice, both away from home, against Manchester City and Aston Villa during the 2009/10 seasons.

They are two of eleven Burnley games he’s refereed with those two the first two, and his only other Turf Moor game was the 1-1 draw against Cardiff on the day the Welsh side clinched promotion.

Despite all the controversy that has surrounded him, we’ve never really had any problems with him and that continued to be the case in his only Burnley game so far this season, our 0-0 draw at Sunderland in the FA Cup.

Having won promotion back to the Select Group last summer, he’s been used sparingly in the Premier League. Tomorrow will be just his eighth game at this level all season and the first time any of the top six clubs have been involved.

He’s refereed 22 games in total in which there have been 74 yellow cards and seven red cards. Of those yellows, 34 have gone to home team players with 40 to away team players. Although he’s sent off seven players, they have come in just four games with three red cards shown in the Brighton v Sheffield Wednesday game in January when neither side’s manager had a word of complaint about his performance.

His last game was the 2-2 draw between Blackburn and Preston two weeks ago. Blackburn had Connor Mahoney yellow carded alongside Preston’s Greg Cunningham and Paul Huntington.

Stuart Attwell is currently eighth in RATE THE REF with a rating of 68.11 out of 100.

The assistant referees are Gary Beswick (County Durham) and Dave Bryan (Lincolnshire). The fourth official is Martin Atkinson (West Yorkshire) whose most recent Burnley game was the 1-1 draw at Hull.
