Week 3 was more even between north and south in the U18 Professional Development League with four winners from each group and the two other games ending in draws.

1920 burnley joe mcglynn 00 500x500Nottingham Forest had been the only north group team to win a game before Saturday. They couldn’t make it two with Crystal Palace holding them to a draw but wins for Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday, Wigan and ourselves have at least started adding some points to the north group table at this early stage of the season.

We are the lowest placed team of those with a win but fifth looks far healthier than things did a week ago when we sat bottom with two successive defeats and, as previously reported, goals from Mitch George and Joe McGlynn (pictured) gave us a fully deserved win against Cardiff.

Three north group teams, Barnsley, Birmingham and Bolton, are still to register a first point of the season. Birmingham had no game this week but Barnsley were beaten by south group leaders Watford while Bolton suffered a 4-0 defeat against Bristol City.

Only Forest, with one win and one draw, remain unbeaten in the north group which, in our two previous seasons, has looked the stronger of the two, but there are five teams still to lose in the south group which sees Watford and Charlton both with maximum points from their first three games while just Cardiff and Colchester still seek a first win of the season.

Next week sees the south group teams at home with us travelling to Crystal Palace and Sheffield United the team without  a game.
