It’s been big news this week at the Burnley academy, but Accrington Stanley have been making changes at theirs too with the appointments of two former Burnley players who played left-back at Turf Moor in two very different eras.

On Wednesday, they appointed Steve Morgan as a lead coach within their academy. Morgan joins Accrington after nine years working in the academy at Oldham.

As a player, he joined Burnley in the summer of 1998 and made 20 appearances during his one season at the Turf having been brought in from Wigan by Stan Ternent. He’d previously played in the top flight for Coventry between 1993 and 1996.

Yesterday, Accy added Willie Donachie (pictured) who joins them as technical skills lead coach. As part of his duties he will deliver technical sessions, assist in coach development with the under-9 to under-13 groups and will also become the under-16 coach.

The 65-year-old Donachie was a Brian Miller signing for Burnley when he came from Portland Timbers in 1982. He made 80 appearances for us in just under three years before signing for Oldham in 1984.

Donachie has a wealth of coaching experience. Having played for, he then worked as a coach with Joe Royle at Oldham. He then moved with Royle to Everton, Manchester City, where he made his name as a player, and Ipswich and was also manager of Millwall between 2006 and 2007.
