Burnley took their points total for the season to 36 with a 0-0 draw at Middlesbrough last Saturday on a day when our two full backs stood out with telling contributions from both.

Much of Burnley’s attacking in the second half came down the left with Stephen Ward prominent and his partner Matt Lowton was also outstanding and made two vital clearances off the line in a short space of time.

Their performances, not surprisingly, have seen the pair take the top two places in both the man of the match vote and the player ratings with Lowton taking first place in both.

He won the man of the match with 48% of the vote; Ward was second with a 29% share. Ben Mee claimed third place with 7%, just ahead of his captain and goalkeeper Tom Heaton who was fourth with 6% of the vote.

The player ratings result shows the same four players in those top four places with just one switch between Heaton and Mee. Lowton scored exactly eight out of ten with Ward second with a rating of 7.67. Heaton’s third place rating was 7.52 with Mee scoring 7.38 out of 10 to take fourth place.

This result gives Lowton the maximum ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year with Ward collecting six points. Heaton and Mee won three points each.

Lowton and Ward, who have been so consistent in recent weeks, are now joint seventh in the player of the year table with 44 points each. And up at the top, those three points have enabled Mee to extend his lead over Michael Keane to seven points.

The next vote will follow our game at Everton this season and it should be available within an hour of the final whistle.
