Gawthorpe Dev 58It’s still very much a building site which makes getting to the youth team pitch a hazardous experience through the mud that was previously a path, but work is progressing well at Gawthorpe as the new look training ground takes shape.

The two new Desso pitches immediately facing you as you cross the bridge are now operational and work has started on the third Desso pitch which will replicate the pitch at Turf Moor with an under soil heating system.

This will be the pitch closest to the new building which is very much taking shape with news last week that it is ahead of schedule and is going to be ready for use by the spring of next year and it is all certainly going to be a lot different from the training ground we had in 2004 when then new manager Steve Cotterill felt the building was unfit for his players to use and where there wasn’t a single pitch worthy of the name.

The first team squad were never to use that building again until it was significantly changed during the 2011/12 season, although they did have one decent pitch to train when the top pitch, the main first team pitch, was replaced in 2005.

There are a few more photographs added to the Gawthorpe gallery which can be found within Redevelopment on the top menu.
