A first Walsall appearance for Josh Ginnelly

A first Walsall appearance for Josh Ginnelly

All three of our loan players out at English clubs started last night with Josh Ginnelly getting a first start for Walsall and Metz making his debut for Altrincham against FC Halifax in the National League North.

Ginnelly had to settle for a place on the bench last Saturday as Walsall kicked off the new season with a home win against AFC Wimbledon but he got his first opportunity last night when they came up against Yeovil in the League Cup. He played 63 minutes before making way for Cypriat Andreas Makris to make his Saddlers debut.

There was no score in the game at the time and it remained that way until extra time when Yeovil scored in each half of extra time to win the game 2-1. Ginnelly will now be hoping to be involved when they travel to Oldham this Saturday.

It was a quick debut too for Khius Metz for Altrincham. He went straight into their team at The Shay and played for all but the last seventeen minutes of their 2-2 draw and, according to reports, equitted himself really well.

I’m sure Alex Whitmore might have mixed emotions regarding Morecambe’s League Cup game last night. It was a good night for the Shrimps who won at Championship club Rotherham but they did concede four goals in an amazing game that they won 5-4.

It was a second full game for him and certainly he won’t have played against a team of Rotherham’s quality before. He, and Morecambe, will now be looking forward to tonight’s 2nd round draw as will we with Burnley going into the competition in the next round.
