Chris Wood scored one equaliser for Burnley at Leicester and anyone with an ounce of understanding of the game knows he scored a second only for it to be ruled out by VAR, but, overall, this was his best performance of the season so far which led to him winning our man of the match vote and player ratings.

wood 400x400Last night, as the argument continues, Danny Murphy, on The Debate, cited our disallowed goal as a reason why VAR isn’t working and suggested the best thing to do is scrap it. It cost Wood, back at the King Power Stadium where he first played Premier League football, and it cost Burnley.

He was getting some early season criticism but he’s been bang in form recently and his performance in this game saw him claim 50% of the man of the match vote. Dwight McNeil, another who is in good form right now, was second with a 16% share while Ashley Westwood and James Tarkowski took the next two places with 8% and 9% of the vote respectively.

Those same four players took the top four places in the player ratings too. Again Wood was the winner with a rating of 7.96 out of 10 although here second place went to Tarkowski who had a rating of 7.65. A rating of 7.30 won third place for McNeil while Westwood came fourth with a rating of 7.26 out of 10.

This result has given Wood the maximum ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year while there were five points for McNeil, four for Tarkowski and three for Westwood. With the players right behind leader Tarkowski not picking up any points, it’s enabled the central defender to extend his lead at the top of the table to twenty points ahead of Ben Mee. Wood has moved up into fourth place with his maximum haul.

Voting will be underway again this Saturday after the Chelsea game and the Leicester result can be found below with the current player of the year table.
