Good weekend for top six
Burnley went into last weekend in seventh place in the Youth Alliance League, behind a top six of Walsall, Blackpool, Accrington Stanley, Bury, Rochdale and Port Vale, but our 0-0 draw against Wrexham saw us drop further behind all six as they all recorded wins.
It was certainly a case of top getting the better of the bottom. The fixture list had thrown up a weekend when the top seven all played against the bottom end of the league and not one of the top six faltered.
Leaders Walsall maintained their six point lead with a win against next to bottom Morecambe while Blackpool remained above Accrington on goal difference with a win at Tranmere while Stanley beat Carlisle.
Bury won at Shrewsbury, Rochdale beat Preston and Port Vale secured a home win against Fleetwood to complete the results.
Accrington are still very much in a strong position. They are level on points with Blackpool but six points behind Walsall although their games in hand could take them to joint top of the league.
Most of the top six are kept apart this weekend but there is one big clash between Walsall and fifth place Rochdale. A win for Rochdale could really tighten things up at the top.
In case you missed it, Burnley’s game this week has been moved both in terms of the date and the venue. We should have been playing Wigan this Saturday at home but will now play them at Christopher Park, Wigan tomorrow afternoon with a 2 p.m. kick off.
The young Clarets will next be in home action next Tuesday evening when they will get the opportunity to play on the Turf in the 3rd round of the FA Youth Cup against Bradford City.
All last week’s results are below with this week’s fixtures, Burnley’s goalscorers and the league table as it stands.
The League Table is updated as results are confirmed and can be found, as can our Fixtures and Results, in U23/U18 Stats on the top menu.
