1718 burnley johann berg gudmundsson 00 500x500It’s been a good return to form for Jόhann Berg Guðmundsson. He won both the man of the match vote and the player ratings for his performance in the game against Chelsea and he has repeated that last Sunday at Stoke with another outstanding performance.

It was only some smart goalkeeping from Jack Butland and some bad luck with a  couple of efforts that prevented him from scoring his first ever away goal for us. He’d said ahead of the game  that he wanted to retain his form for the rest of the season and going into the World Cup; he certainly did that at Stoke.

He polled 62% of the vote, ahead of the yet again impressive Ashley Westwood in midfield who was second with a 20% share. It was close between third and fourth place, both had 5% of the vote, but it was Jack Cork who just edged out Ashley Barnes.

The top two were the same in the player ratings. Again Guðmundsson was the winner with a rating of 7.70 out of 10 and 7.50 out of 10 gave Westwood second place. There were two defenders in the next two places though. Matt Lowton came third with a rating of 6.97, just ahead of the 6.93 out of 10 that won fourth place for Kevin Long.

Guðmundsson has again won the maximum ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year with six for Westwood, two points for both Cork and Lowton, and one point for Barnes and Long.

The points are significant too with Steven Defour finally losing top spot. That now belongs to Guðmundsson who moved on to 100 points, seven ahead of Defour. JBG can still be passed by any of Ben Mee, should he play again this season, Nick Pope, James Tarkowski or Cork.

The next vote will be underway on Saturday after the Brighton game. The Stoke result and the current player of the year table are below.
