Guðmundsson shines in first game of the year
Jόhann Berg Guðmundsson is a player very much in form right now On New Year’s Day he scored his first goal of the season and proved to be our man of the match in the 2-1 defeat against Liverpool.
His performance won him both the man of the match vote and the player ratings with the points won taking him very close to the top three in the Up the Clarets Player of the Year Table where he now sits just one point behind Jack Cork.
He won 45% of the man of the match vote with captain and central defender Ben Mee in second place with 14%. Steven Defour and Ashley Barnes took third and fourth places. Both won 10% of the vote with Defour securing three more votes than Barnes.
Guðmundsson shared first place in the player ratings with returning defender James Tarkowski. Both had ratings of 7.13 with Mee now in third place with a rating of 6.95. Goalkeeper Nick Pope, with a rating of 6.71 out of 10, took fourth place.
That result won ten points for Guðmundsson towards the player of the year with five points for both Mee and Tarkowski, two points for Defour and one point each for Barnes and Pope.
Tarkowski has reduced Defour’s lead at the top of the table to 13 points with Cork a further 13 points behind Tarkowski with Guðmundsson now very much in the running for that top place.
