Burnley were beaten 3-0 at Chelsea last Saturday in our first away game of the new Premier League season. It wasn’t the best of performances but we came up against a Chelsea side in outstanding form.

1516 burnley tom heaton 00 630x420The result could have been worse but for good performances from our two central defenders and more so from captain and goalkeeper Tom Heaton who made a string of fine saves that have won him the man of the match vote and the player ratings, both by some distance.

He polled 57% of the man of the match vote, way ahead of teenage midfielder Aiden O’Neill who came on with almost an hour gone and gave an accomplished performance that gave him second place with 17%. Ben Mee and Michael Keane took third and fourth place; Mee had 9% and Keane 5% of the vote.

In each of the two previous games, the top four in the vote had taken the top four places in the ratings. That’s the case again and on this occasion in exactly the same order.

Heaton was the winner with a rating of 8.29 out of 10 with O’Neill in second place with 6.81. Mee had 6.71 to come third and Keane, with a rating of 6.52 out of 10, won fourth place.

The points awarded towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year are therefore ten for Heaton, six for O’Neill, four for Mee and two for Keane and that has extended Keane’s lead at the top to three points, meaning he’s the player of the month for August.

With no game this week, the next vote will be a week on Saturday for the home game against Hull.
