Hendrick voted best in first game of the year
Burnley went down to a 2-1 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on New Year’s Day Bank Holiday but there were a lot of positives to come from the performance, not least the return of Jeff Hendrick in the midfield after missing the Sunderland win through a suspension.
Hendrick claimed his third man of the match award of the season, equal with all of Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Tom Heaton and Ben Mee, and he was also the winner in the player ratings.
He won the man of the match with 24% of the poll with Mee surprisingly claiming second place, despite him not being at his best, with a 19% share. Just behind Mee was Heaton with 18% and Scott Arfield was in fourth place with 11% of the vote.
Two of those four were in the top four ratings places with Hendrick again first with a rating of 7.70 out of 10. Heaton was second with 7.52 while Stephen Ward was third with a rating of 7.00 ahead of George Boyd for whom a rating of 6.87 out of 10 won him fourth place.
Hendrick won himself the maximum ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year to take him into fourth place. There were five points for Heaton, three for Mee, two for Ward and one each for Arfield and Boyd.
Those points have allowed Mee to increase his lead over defensive partner Michael Keane at the top to 13 points. Heaton is a further 15 points behind Keane with Hendrick now just 13 points behind Heaton.
Watch out for the man of the match vote after the FA Cup tie tomorrow at Sunderland. It will be available within an hour of the final whistle.
